| The Hot Society Orchestra of Washington performs dance music of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, providing an elegant recreation of the great early-jazz dance bands of a bygone era. The HSO, with musical director Dave Tucker, is a special project created to bring together some of the best early-jazz musicians and vocalists in the D.C. Area. The group specializes in providing entertainment for 1920s-1930s style “Prohibition”, “Great Gatsby” and “Roaring 20s” events. The hot dance & swing big-band music of the late 30s and early 40s is also featured by the group. The HSO now performs for vintage ballroom dances regularly at the historic Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park, a beautifully restored 1933 Mediterranean style Art Deco building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and known to be one of the best dance halls on the East Coast. A very wide variety of music is performed at such dances, including many Latin styles and waltzes besides the early hot-jazz styles. In late 2010 the HSO began broadcasting LIVE video and audio from their performances at the Spanish Ballroom. Our music is suitable for numerous types of events and dance styles, including two-step, foxtrot, waltz, cha-cha, rumba, samba, swing and many more. Ballroom dances, formal concerts, outdoor venues - HSO is the BEST CHOICE! Have you been watching HBO's "Boardwalk Empire", or Ken Burn's "Prohibition"? We're the perfect band - in fact the only band in the area specializing in this style - for providing the music from the Prohibition era, and beyond!
